
The website Stjórnmálin.is covers primarily politics in Iceland and abroad with special focus on foreign, security and defense affairs. The website is run by Hjörtur J. Guðmundsson, historian and international political scientist (MA in international relations with an emphasis on European studies and security and defense).
Hjörtur worked for a decade as a journalist at Iceland’s newspaper Morgunblaðið and its online sister publication mbl.is (2010-2020), covering politics, foreign affairs and defense issues. He has also worked as a public and international relations specialist and written reports on politics and international affairs for domestic and foreign parties. Moreover, he has advised cabinet ministers and members of parliament, both domestically and abroad, on these matters for years and also held positions of trust within the Icelandic conservative Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn). Hjörtur currently serves e.g. as a member of the party’s foreign affairs committee.
Furthermore, Hjörtur has given numerous lectures and presentations on foreign, security and defense affairs both at home and abroad. For example, at meetings, conferences and dinners in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Denmark and Norway. Including in the premises of the European Union Parliament in both Strasbourg and Brussels. Moreover, he has been a regular guest and commentator on both radio, podcast and television programs over the years where he has discussed domestic and foreign politics, especially regarding foreign, security and defense affairs.
